Quick Start
A good default workflow
ResumeMaker.Online is designed as a connected workspace, not just a single resume page. A strong default flow is: create or import a resume, tailor it to a target job, translate or enable the cover letter if needed, then use the tracker, saved jobs, and interview tools around the same application.
Build the base resume
Use Blank, Import Resume, Start From Example, or Start with Your Notes depending on how much content you already have.
Tailor intentionally
Use Tailor to Job and the section assistants to improve wording and coverage without changing factual information.
Support the application
Track the job, save the description, practice the interview, and keep everything connected across the workspace.
Resume Maker
Edit the real resume, directly on the page
The page in the center is both the editor and the preview. Click any editable text, type the change, and watch the final layout update in place. Your work saves automatically; check the save status at the top before closing the tab or downloading.
Edit the essentials first
Start with name, target role, contact details, summary, recent experience, education, and skills. Click the words on the resume rather than looking for a separate form.
Organize the structure
Use the left panel to add, hide, restore, and reorder sections. Add another work or education item only when it contributes useful evidence.
Polish, then inspect the pages
Format selected text, use a focused writing assistant where needed, and check the page-break guides before export.
Editing text and entries
- Click or tap inside a field to place the cursor. Select only the words you want to format or rewrite.
- Press Enter where a field supports multiple lines. In bullet content, Enter continues the list; pressing Enter on an empty bullet exits it.
- Use the item controls beside experience, education, and other repeatable sections to add, reorder, or remove entries.
- Keep dates, company names, school names, and credentials factual. AI tools are for clearer presentation, not invented experience.
Formatting selected text
Select text inside the resume to open the small editing toolbar. Its Rewrite menu closes when an AI action starts so it does not sit over the progress state.
| Control | What it does | Useful for |
|---|---|---|
| Bold | Adds or removes bold styling. | Job titles, employers, or a small piece of emphasis. |
| Italic | Adds or removes italic styling. | Light secondary emphasis; use sparingly. |
| Bullets | Toggles bullet formatting across the selected lines. | Achievements and responsibilities. It is hidden on fields that only allow one line. |
| Add link | Creates a safe web, email, or telephone link. A plain domain gets https://; an email gets mailto:. | Portfolios, LinkedIn profiles, publications, and project pages. |
| Copy / Cut / Paste | Moves the selected text using the browser clipboard. | Reusing a phrase or reorganizing content. Your browser may ask for clipboard permission. |
| Rewrite | Rewrites the selection while keeping its meaning. | Awkward or repetitive wording. |
| Make Shorter | Compresses the selection. | Long bullets and tight page breaks. |
| Expand Slightly | Adds a little useful detail. | Thin statements that lack context. |
| Simplify | Makes wording easier to scan. | Jargon-heavy or complicated sentences. |
| Tone | Offers Professional, Confident, Friendly, and Casual rewrites. | Matching the voice to the role without changing the facts. |
How to add or remove a link
- Select the words that should be clickable.
- Choose Add link, enter the destination, and confirm.
- To remove it, select linked text and choose Add link again.
Only web links, email links, and telephone links are accepted. Open the link once after export to make sure the destination is correct.
Sections and contact details
Use Add Section to restore a hidden built-in section or add a custom one. Drag section controls to change reading order. In Contact Details, you can add, retag, remove, and reorder fields such as email, phone, website, LinkedIn, location, and other relevant links.
For most resumes: Contact Details → Professional Summary → Work Experience → Skills → Education → supporting sections. Put the strongest evidence closest to the top.
Page breaks and mobile editing
The editor grows with the real content and shows page-break guides on desktop. If one line spills onto a new page, shorten the weakest text before shrinking everything. On mobile, open the floating Edit Resume panel, drag outside interactive fields to move around the A4 canvas, pinch to zoom, and tap a field to edit it.
The app interface can be in one language while the resume, cover letter, AI edits, section labels, and downloads remain in another.
New Resume
Choose the right starting path
Open this from the New Resume button near the top of the workspace or from inside My Resumes.
Blank resume
Best for full controlUse this when you want to write or restructure everything manually. It is the cleanest path if you already know the story you want to tell.
Import resume
Default recommendationUpload PDF, DOCX, or TXT when you already have a resume. Import & Improve is the default because it usually gives the best balance of stronger wording, cleaner structure, and better bullet-style work experience.
Use Import As Is when you mainly want the content brought into the editor with less rewriting.
Start from example
Best for inspirationGenerate a polished sample based on role, industry, and experience level. This is helpful when you want a strong starting structure and then plan to replace the example content with your own factual background.
Start from draft
Best for freeform inputType or dictate your background in a natural way, like who you are, how many years of experience you have, where you worked, and what you did. ResumeMaker.Online will organize that into the main resume sections for you.
After the first draft appears
- Replace example or generated details with your own verified facts.
- Check names, dates, links, employers, schools, and qualifications first.
- Read every bullet aloud. Remove anything you would not be comfortable explaining in an interview.
- Open Templates & Design only after the content is stable enough to judge the layout.
All four paths create a new resume instead of deleting the version you are editing. They also prepare cover-letter content in the background, even when the cover-letter page is disabled.
My Resumes
Managing versions without losing work
Use the My Resumes button near the top of the workspace to reopen, duplicate, favorite, or delete saved versions. This is where ResumeMaker.Online starts to feel like a workspace instead of a single file.
Cards view is better for browsing visually. Table view is better when names are long and you want to scan versions faster.
The currently open resume is shown as Editing in the list so you always know which version is live.
What each action is for
| Action | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Open | You want that saved version to become the active resume in the editor. |
| Duplicate | You want a safe copy before changing positioning, content, or design. |
| Favorite | You want an important base resume or active application version easier to find. |
| Delete | You are certain a version is no longer useful. Check its name and target role first. |
Keep one clean base resume, then make versions for specific jobs and languages. Names such as “Base · Product Designer,” “Acme · Senior Product Designer,” and “Swedish · Product Designer” are easier to recognize later.
Templates & Design
Style changes do not rewrite the content
Use the three controls above the left panel to change presentation while keeping the same resume content underneath.
| Control | What changes | What stays |
|---|---|---|
| Change | Opens the template library. Choose among one-column, left-sidebar, and right-sidebar designs, or filter by role family. | Your resume text and saved sections. |
| Layout | Controls the arrangement and order of sections available for the selected design. | The factual content inside each section. |
| Design | Adjusts title font, body font, accent color, and font size. | The words, dates, links, and entries. |
Choosing a readable design
- Use one column for dense experience, long role histories, or conservative applications.
- Use a sidebar when skills, languages, or contact information benefit from a compact secondary column.
- Choose font size after the content is close to final. Shorten weak copy before making everything unusually small.
- Keep accent colors dark enough to read and restrained enough to print clearly.
The library currently contains 25 designs.
Design controls such as title font, body font, accent color, and font size affect both the resume and its matching cover-letter page. PDF filenames use the person’s name plus a localized Resume, CV, Curriculum, or Cover Letter label.
AI Writing Assistants
Use section-level help instead of regenerating everything
Use the Assistant button beside Professional Summary, Skills, or an individual Work Experience entry. Each assistant changes only the section you are working on, and you decide what to apply.
| Assistant | What you provide | What you receive |
|---|---|---|
| Professional Summary | Target role and experience level. | Three complete summary options. Generate three more without losing earlier results, browse them, then apply one. |
| Skills | Target role and experience level. | A selectable list of relevant skills. Add only skills you genuinely have; Generate More expands the list without repeating earlier suggestions. |
| Work Experience | The role title for that specific experience entry, with the main resume role as a fallback. | Bullet-style achievement and responsibility ideas. Select individual lines rather than overwriting the whole entry. |
A good way to use generated writing
- Give the assistant the most precise, accurate role context available.
- Choose the option closest to your real experience—not simply the most impressive one.
- Replace generic claims with your real scope, tools, outcomes, or numbers where possible.
- Read the final section alongside the rest of the resume so the tone remains consistent.
Which writing tool should you choose?
- Select text → Rewrite for one sentence or phrase.
- Section Assistant for one summary, skill set, or experience entry.
- AI Resume Coach for a conversation, review, or connected editor change.
- Tailor to Job when the whole resume must respond to a specific job description.
Treat suggestions as editable drafts. Do not add a skill, result, tool, responsibility, or qualification that you cannot support.
AI Resume Coach
Chat with the resume that is actually open
Open AI Resume Coach from its launcher in the resume workspace. On desktop, its panel shifts the workspace instead of covering the resume.
The coach understands the active resume and the conversation thread. Ask it to review the resume, answer a resume or job-search question, make a focused edit, move or restore a section, update a contact field, or open the right specialist tool.
Review Resume returns an overall score, component scores, and prioritized strengths, warnings, fixes, and opportunities. It uses the same AI context as the rest of the conversation rather than a separate local checklist.
For a direct edit, the coach verifies that the editor changed, shows a compact red/green change preview, and offers Undo. For broader work, it opens tools such as Templates, Design, Summary Assistant, Skills Assistant, a role-specific Bullet Assistant, Tailor to Job, or Translate.
The coach keeps interface replies in the app language while applying resume text in the active resume’s content language.
Questions that work well
- “Review this resume and give me the three most important fixes.”
- “Make my summary clearer for product design roles, but keep every fact.”
- “Move Skills above Education.”
- “Open the bullet assistant for my latest job.”
- “Which tool should I use to tailor this for a saved job?”
When the coach edits something
Review the compact red-and-green change preview before moving on. Red shows removed content and green shows the replacement. Use Undo immediately if the edit is not an improvement. For bigger workflows, the coach opens the appropriate specialist tool so you still control the final result.
AI Resume Coach can inspect and edit the active resume. AI Guided Help in this Help modal only explains how ResumeMaker.Online works; it does not read or change resume content.
Tailor to Job
Tailor for a role without bending the truth
Open Tailor to Job near the top of the editor. Paste a full job description or choose a tracker entry that already contains one. Wishlist roles appear first; applications in later stages remain available under the expandable other-jobs group.
Choose the exact role
Use the original description rather than a short summary. Requirements, responsibilities, terminology, and seniority all help the comparison.
Analyze and review
For one job, choose Analyze & Review. Read the strategy, fit information, matched keywords, missing keywords, and proposed edits before applying.
Inspect the diff
A red minus marks removed wording and a green plus marks the replacement. Missing keywords are prompts to check your real experience—not instructions to invent it.
Apply or cancel
Apply only the result you can defend. Save as new version creates the additional resume after Apply; canceling does not save an extra version.
Tailoring several saved jobs
Select the checkbox on two or more tracker jobs, then choose Create N Tailored Versions, where N matches the number selected. Tailor Several Jobs is the heading on the progress/results panel. A separate tailored resume is created for each role; successful versions remain saved if another job fails, and each result can be expanded to inspect its fit score, strategy, updated areas, and keyword summary.
It can strengthen summary, skills, work wording, and cover-letter language. It should not change real employers, titles, dates, schools, credentials, or background into something false.
Translate
Translate into a new working version
Open Translate near the top of the workspace or from its more-options menu. Choose a listed destination language, or choose another language and type its name.
Finish the source first
Correct the original dates, names, facts, and awkward text before translating. A clean source produces a cleaner second version.
Choose the hiring language
Translate into the language expected in the application, even if your app interface stays in another language.
Review the new saved version
Check professional terminology, local title conventions, dates, names, links, and page breaks. Adjust phrases that are correct but unnatural for the market.
Translate creates a separate saved resume. Contact values stay preserved, while section titles, resume text, custom sections, and cover-letter content are translated. Future AI edits and downloads follow the translated resume’s content language.
Cover Letter
Cover letter content is part of the resume workflow
Use the cover letter toggle in the left panel to include or remove the cover letter page from the current resume version.
Cover letter content is prepared in the main AI resume creation flows, even when the cover letter is still turned off. That means you can enable it later and find a starting draft already waiting.
Translation also updates the stored cover letter content, even if the cover letter is hidden at the time.
Tailor to Job can also update a disabled cover letter. Enable the cover letter afterward to review the tailored version.
Every current resume template includes a matching editable cover-letter page. Template changes and Design font-size settings apply to both documents, while Download creates separate localized PDF files.
Before you download it
- Address the correct company and role; remove generic placeholders.
- Connect two or three relevant strengths to the actual job rather than repeating the resume.
- Keep every example factual and check the active content language.
- Read the closing and contact details once more before export.
Download
Export the application you see in the editor
Use Download in the editor’s top bar when the content and page breaks are ready. The exported PDF follows the active template, design settings, content language, and current resume version.
Review the live pages
Check contact details, dates, page breaks, and the active resume language before exporting.
Choose what to include
If the cover letter is enabled, the resume and cover letter are downloaded as separate matching PDFs.
Keep the right version
Filenames use the candidate name and a localized Resume, CV, Curriculum, or Cover Letter label.
You can build and preview for free. When a download requires Pro, the existing ResumeMaker.Online pricing modal explains the available plan for your location.
Final PDF checklist
- Open links and confirm email and phone details.
- Check that no heading or single bullet is stranded across a page break.
- Make sure the intended version, template, language, and cover-letter setting are active.
- Open the downloaded PDF once before sending it to an employer.
Headshot Studio
Create a professional image from a clear selfie
Open Headshot Studio from the left navigation. The quality of the uploaded photo matters more than elaborate instructions.
Upload a clear selfie
Choose a recent, front-facing JPG, PNG, or WEBP photo with even lighting and an unobstructed face. Avoid heavy filters and sunglasses.
Set the professional direction
Enter the real target role or industry, choose the final background, and select Generate Headshot.
Compare every preview
Inspect the Studio Result, LinkedIn, and Resume previews. Look for a believable likeness, natural details, appropriate crop, and a tone that fits the target role.
Keep and reuse the right result
Download the image, regenerate if needed, archive useful results, or apply the chosen image to the active resume.
Use a result only when it still looks recognizably like you and feels suitable for the market. Photo expectations vary by country and profession, so include one on a resume only where it is appropriate.
LinkedIn® Optimizer
Turn verified resume content into LinkedIn-ready positioning
Open LinkedIn® Optimizer from the left navigation. It builds profile content from a saved resume, pasted resume text, or an uploaded PDF, DOCX, or TXT file.
Choose the source
Select the active or another saved resume, paste the text, or upload a file. Start with a fact-checked resume so the profile stays defensible.
Set the output language
Choose a listed language or enter another one, then generate the LinkedIn text.
Review and copy
Compare headline options and edit the About, experience, skills, and featured ideas before copying them to your profile.
Preview the profile
Switch between content and profile preview, then test light or dark appearance while you refine the generated copy.
Complete the visual direction
Upload or generate a wide LinkedIn banner, upload a profile photo, or open Headshot Studio for new headshot options.
What the generated package contains
- Several headline options so you can compare positioning.
- An About section and experience rewrites built from the source resume.
- Keyword-aware skills and ideas for the Featured section.
- Individual Copy actions plus Copy All when the complete package is ready.
The Optimizer does not sign in to LinkedIn or change your live profile. Copy the chosen text into LinkedIn, then confirm that role titles, dates, claims, and keywords remain consistent with your resume.
Job Board
Find a role and carry its context into the application
Open Job Board from the left navigation. Search by role or keyword and location, then narrow by country, employment type, minimum salary, and result order.
Search with realistic criteria
Use a role you can support with evidence, choose the market, and add filters only when they improve the result set.
Save promising roles
Use Save to Wishlist to create a Wishlist entry in the Application Tracker with the available role details and description.
Tailor from the listing
Use the tailoring action on a result when you want to compare the role with your resume and create a separate tailored version.
A saved job can later supply context to Tailor to Job and Interview Simulator, while its status, notes, contact, salary, and follow-ups stay organized in the Application Tracker.
Search and result controls
| Control | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Role & location | Search by job title or keyword, then set the location and country you can realistically work in. |
| Sort | Choose Best Match for relevance, Newest for recent posts, or Salary when compensation is the priority. |
| Filters | Narrow by Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Contract, Temporary, and minimum salary. |
| Result details | Review company, location, salary, contract, category, posting date, and description preview before saving. |
Open the source listing to confirm that the role is still active and that requirements, location, salary, and application instructions have not changed. ResumeMaker.Online saves and organizes roles; it does not submit the application automatically.
Application Tracker
Track roles, stages, and notes in one place
Open this from the left navigation by clicking Application Tracker.
The tracker is where you save each role as a real application entry instead of leaving job information scattered across tabs, notes, and emails.
Each application can hold the company name, role title, job URL, status, salary range, recruiter or contact, notes, and the full job description.
Board and Table views
| View | Best for | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Board | Seeing each application stage. | Drag cards between Wishlist, Applied, Interviewing, Offer, and Rejected to update their status. |
| Table | Scanning and comparing many roles. | Review and sort fields such as company, role, status, salary, Hype Score, and last update. |
The summary above the views tracks totals, applications, interviews, and hit rate so you can see movement without counting cards manually.
Adding a complete application
Use Add Job Application and save as much useful context as you have: status, company, role, URL, salary, recruiter or contact, Hype Score, follow-up date, full job description, interview notes, and next steps.
- Use Hype Score as your personal priority level, not as an employer score.
- Save the complete job description before the listing disappears.
- Add a follow-up date whenever another action is expected from you.
- Keep interview notes and next steps attached to the same application.
What to save here
- Where you applied and for which role.
- The original job description so you can match your resume later.
- Salary, recruiter details, notes, and next steps.
- Status changes like applied, interview, offer, or rejected.
Why it matters
- Tailor to Job can pull job descriptions from saved entries.
- Interview Prep can use the saved role as interview context.
- The Browser Extension can sync supported job saves into the tracker.
- You keep one factual source of truth per application.
As soon as a role becomes serious, add it with the full job description. Tailor to Job and Interview Simulator can then work from the same saved context instead of a partial memory of the listing.
Interview Simulator
Practice with role, job, and resume context together
Open this from the left navigation by clicking Interview Simulator.
The setup screen is designed to let you choose how realistic the interview should be before you start.
You can set a target role, optionally attach a saved job application, optionally attach a saved resume, choose the interview language, and decide whether questions should be read aloud.
How to set it up well
- Start with the Target role field.
- Turn on the saved job source if you want company and job-description context.
- Turn on the resume source if you want questions based on your own background.
- Choose whether to type your replies or answer with the microphone.
During the interview
- The interviewer drives the flow and asks follow-up questions.
- You can answer by typing or by speaking, depending on the mode.
- If voice input is unreliable, switch to Type.
- At the end, you get a review instead of only a transcript.
Setup choices explained
- Resume context: choose a saved resume, paste text, or upload a PDF, DOCX, or TXT file.
- Job context: paste the description or choose a tracker application.
- Language: controls the interview conversation and review.
- Read questions aloud: plays each interviewer question for you.
- Spoken answers: supports a more conversational practice flow. Choose Type whenever voice input is unreliable.
Reviewing a completed practice
End the interview to receive an overall assessment and question-level feedback. Look for recurring issues: answers without examples, unclear ownership, missing outcomes, or stories that do not connect to the target role. Past Interviews keeps earlier sessions with date, role, context, score, and actions so you can compare progress.
Practice after the resume is tailored to a real job. Answer in your own words rather than memorizing a script, then repeat the session after correcting the weakest pattern.
Browser Extension
Save jobs and prefill applications from the browser
Open Browser Extension in the Career Toolkit, choose Install Extension, complete the Chrome Web Store flow, and pin it beside the address bar for easier access.
Open the full job page
Automatic capture supports LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, and Adzuna, including several regional versions. Expand the full description before opening the extension.
Review and save the listing
Confirm source, company, role, URL, location, date, and description. For an unsupported site, use Add Manually.
Continue in the tracker
Sync the saved role to the Application Tracker, add your priority and next action, then reuse the full description for Tailor to Job or Interview Simulator.
Prefill supported application fields
Open ResumeMaker.Online once to sync saved resumes, choose the resume under Application autofill, and run autofill on the application page. Repeat on later steps when a multi-page form loads new fields.
Managing saved roles in the extension
Use search and sorting in the popup to find an earlier save. From there you can open the source, continue in the tracker, or remove the local saved item.
Autofill targets supported empty fields it can identify confidently. Check every answer, attachment, consent, screening question, and dynamically loaded step yourself. The extension does not submit applications for you.
Account & Billing
Manage your profile, payment details, and subscription
Open the Account menu in the left navigation on desktop or the top bar on mobile. Choose Account Settings to open the secure account portal.
Profile & sign-in
- Review the name and email connected to your account.
- Use the account portal for available sign-in or profile changes.
- Use Sign Out from the Account menu on a shared device.
Billing
- Open Account Settings → Billing to view and manage the subscription.
- Review the active plan, billing status, and available payment details there.
- ResumeMaker.Online bills monthly in USD; local-currency prices elsewhere in the product are converted displays.
How to cancel
Open Account → Account Settings → Billing and choose the cancellation option shown for the active subscription.
What happens next
Cancellation stops future renewals. Paid access continues until the end of the current billing period.
If the portal does not resolve it
Use Contact support below the help chat. Send the message from the email attached to the account and describe the billing issue.
Account and subscription access is managed through Outseta, with payment processing provided by Stripe. ResumeMaker.Online does not store your full payment-card number.
Before contacting support about billing
- Confirm that you signed in with the email used at checkout.
- Check the active subscription and renewal state in Account Settings → Billing.
- Include the account email, the approximate charge date, and a description of what looks wrong. Never send a full card number.
Help & Support
Common questions and quick checks
Why can’t I find an AI writing action?
Select text to reveal the inline Rewrite tools, or use the Assistant beside Summary, Skills, or a Work Experience entry. If an action requires sign-in or Pro access, the existing access or pricing modal should explain the next step.
Why did an AI result stop or fail?
Keep the editor open and try the action once more. A long resume or temporary high demand can interrupt a request. Your existing resume remains unchanged unless you applied a completed result.
How do I know my resume saved?
Watch the save status near the top of the editor. Wait for Changes saved before closing, refreshing, or downloading.
Why does the PDF look different from the editor?
Confirm that the intended resume version, template, Design settings, content language, and cover-letter toggle are active. Check the page-break guides, download again, and open the new file rather than an older copy with the same name.
Why did an import miss some formatting?
PDF and word-processing files can encode columns, icons, and text boxes in ways that are difficult to reconstruct. Confirm the extracted facts, then use the editor’s own sections and template controls to rebuild the clean layout.
How do I report an account or product problem?
Use Contact support below the chat field. Include the account email, the feature name, what you expected, what happened, and the device or browser. Do not send passwords or full payment-card details.
Tell us what is getting in your way.
Include the feature, what you expected, what happened, and the browser or device you were using. Never send a password or full payment-card number.
